Uranium is a very common mineral and is mined in the western united states. U-235 although is very rare and must be extracted from this mineral in order to burn it to produce electricity. This type of energy is non-renewable, meaning there is only a set amount of it on the planet. Uranium accounts for 2% of total energy production in the united states with about 104 licensed nuclear reactors currently producing nuclear energy to power cities. The nuclear energy industry can produce more power than most, making it a very effective mineral to use as energy. But nuclear power creates nuclear waste, it must be contained or it will kill the enviornment. Uranium may be a great power source to use now, but it will devestate us in the long run, we must find new renewable energy sources to use or we will cause damage to the planet.
